As we talk I frequently sketch ideas and relay them via email or screen sharing.

I produce a series of thumbnail sketches or forward some images I that express what I would produce and my clients use those to direct me to the next stage.

You can use your printer to scan a drawing you'd like to show me or exchange images you see on the web to express your idea.
